Irwin N. Megargee [House]

1301 Rose Glen Road, Gladwyne, PA

1893-94 | Residence | Demolished

“Nichols…has finished a colonial house for Irwin N. Megargee to be built in the spring at Roseglen, Pa. It is three stories high, frame with large reception hall, two bathrooms, large porches and probably steam heat and electric lights.” (October 18, 1893)

Irwin Megargee created a model dairy farm in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, calling it “Folly Farm.” Minerva apparently designed not only this house for the farm, but an associated cottage as well.

The main house is no longer extant (it was demolished ca. 1925), but the site and cottage are used today by the Lower Merion Conservancy.
